Editor Biographies

Caleb S. Cage was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. He attended the United States Military Academy, at West Point, where he studied American History, with an emphasis on the Early American Republic. Upon graduation in 2002 he was commissioned as a Field Artillery officer and was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division in Bamberg, Germany for a three year tour. During this period, Captain Cage served as a company executive officer and later as a motorized rifle platoon leader in the city of Baqubah, Iraq. He wrote about his experiences in Baquba with co-author Gregory Tomlin in The Gods of Diyala: Transfer of Command in Iraq, published by Texas A&M University press in the fall of 2008. Less than a year after returning to Germany, he received orders to return to Iraq for a second yearlong deployment to Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom IV as an Information Operations Action Officer for Multinational Corps-Iraq. He currently works as a Senior Policy Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of Nevada and is working on a book about the musician Johnny Cash.

Joe McCoy was born and raised in Winnemucca, NV. He attended Boston University where he graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in physics and philosophy in 1992 and a PhD in philosophy in 2000. His dissertation was entitled “Aporia and Philosophy: A Commentary on Plato’s Meno,” which he wrote under the direction of Dr. Charles L. Griswold. He has been the recipient of several academic fellowships, including a DAAD grant for studies at the University of Tübingen in Germany during the 2001-2002 academic year and has held teaching posts at Boston College, The Catholic University of America, and the University of Nevada-Reno. In 2006, he returned to Nevada and accepted a position as policy research analyst with the Legislative Counsel Bureau’s Research Division and worked as a committee staffer for the Senate Committee on Human Resources and Education during the 2007 Regular Legislative Session. He is currently a Senior Research Analyst with the Nevada System of Higher Education. He has published several articles on Platonic philosophy, and his article, “An Institutional History of the Nevada State Board of Education,” is forthcoming in the Nevada Historical Society Quarterly.
